MTAB Dm3 norr om Polcirkeln - MTAB Dm3 north of the Arctic Circle (order # TAM60)
A film from the northern section of the Iron Ore line and one of the the most powerful electric loco, Dm3, which have hauled the ore trains Kiruna-Narvik for nearly 40 years. MTAB (Malmtrafik i Kiruna AB/Ore traffic in Kiruna) operates the ore train service for its owner, the mining company LKAB. Mainly film before the planned withdrawal of the Dm3 locos, they still handles most of the ore trains on the northern section of the Iron Ore line between Kiruna and Narvik. The DVD has also been extended with footage covering Dm3, El15, T44, T46 and the ore cars.

During almost 40 years the Dm3 locos have handle the majority om the ore trains on the northern section of the Iore ore line in northern Sweden and Norway. Since 1997 the mining company LKAB runs the ore train service through there subsidiary MTAB. At most 14 modernized Dm3 locos have been used to haul the ore trains, all built between 1960 and 1970. The ore trains hauled by Dm3 locos consist of 52 Uad ore Uadp cars, and a fully loaded ore train weighs 5,200 tonnes.
When the new Iore locos was put into service, it was estimated to withdrawn the Dm3 locos in 2005. We visited the Iore Ore line the winter of 2004 to film a trip from Kiruna to Narvik from the cab of an Dm3 loco. But mining increased and the Dm3 locos were used on the northern section of the Iore Ore line until 2010.
Instead of producing a DVD with material just from our winter trip in 2004, which was the thought when we first presented the film in 2008, we extended the DVD with footage taken between 1993 and 2011. The final film became 105 minutes, and the main part is still a cabride with Dm3 locos*, but know framed with much more. The loading of ore train in the Kiruna mine there T46 locos are used for switching, discharging of the ore train in Narvik, with Dm3 used for switching. The DVD has also been extended with footage covering Dm3, El15, T44, T46 and the ore cars.
For you prefering cabrides, there are two separate DVDs published; "Cabride Dm3 Kiruna-Narvik part 1" on 218 min, from which we have taken the cabride part, very shortened to "MTAB Dm3 north of the Arctic Circle”, and also ”Cabride Dm3 Narvik-Kiruna part 2" on 185 min where nearly all the footage are unik for that film.
There are progress on the Iron Ore line since the mining industry heavily expandes. Much in this film are now history. Dm3 are no longer in regular service on the northern section of the Iron Ore line, and only remains as reserve. Most of the old ore cars have been scrapped and replaced by new ore cars. Most old catenary poles along the line have been replaced by new one, new overhead wires have been installed to increase power distribution, old houses from the railway have been demolished. The Iore Ore line and the ore traffic is under progress.
*This is a heavily shortened version of the cabride DVD (TAM45) "Cabride Dm3 Kiruna-Narvik part 1".

The DVD is subtitled in Swedish and English. Swedish narration, cover and menus. Both subtitles and narration can be switched on and off independently.
